okay, this was supposed to be a mini-story, but then I thought...heyy this would be great if I made it into a full blown story.
So, yeah, I'll be doing two stories at the same time. I'll probably write ch.3 of "Text Her.." after this one.
Happy Thanksgiving to all :]
inspiration: the movie Gigi, if you haven't seen it & you like old films, it's absolutley lovely :]

Chapter 1:
"He's coming home tonight," my mother smiles as she takes a vase out of the closet.
"I know, this is the 20th time you've told me," I laugh as I take a magazine off the table.
"Caroline, you should be excited that he's coming to visit," my mother smiles as she pulls out a broom.
“Why? He visits all the time!” I reply as I flip through the fashion section.
"Yes, but you’re never there," she replies as she walks into the kitchen.
"I was with Rachel the last time. It's not every day that you get invited to go to Puerto Rico!" I reply as I follow after her.
"You could've called and said hello, he asked about you often," she smiles as she takes a container from the fridge.
"If he was so interested in seeing me, he could've called," I reply.
"Why don't you go get the mail, I should be getting some pictures from your grandmother today," my mother asks as she points to the door.
"Yeah," I groan as I grab my jacket from the kitchen table.
As I walked over to our obnoxiously colored mailbox, I tried to think of several ways of getting out of this dinner.
Derek and I used to be best friends, he promised that we'd be friends until the end, but of course things called Hormones got in the way and it turned south.
In about the 2nd semester of freshman year, Derek met Beth. Her name really should have been bit-, but I'm far too nice to call anyone by such a name. Well, at least not to their face.
Anyway, I tried to get to know Beth. Derek begged me to, saying that she was a lot nicer than she seemed, but of course she was wrong.
About 2-3 months into their relationship, Beth told Derek that I was trying to steal him away, and if he wanted her to stay, he had to stop seeing me.
Assuming that he'd choose me over her, I thought that I'd have nothing to worry about, but of course that wasn't the case.
He left me, the girl who had been friends with him since kindergarten for some girl that he only knew for about 8 weeks.
I tried to rid myself of him. Unfortunately, my mother and his are best friends.
I got accepted to Berkley, and he got a full-ride scholarship to Stanford.
I’m majoring in the visual arts, he’s majoring in Anthropology.
After two hours of trying to find the perfect outfit.
After one hour of trying to do my hair.
And after three hours of constantly telling my mother that her red a-line dress does not make her butt look big, we arrived at the restaurant.
"You two look gorgeous," Derek’s mother smiles as she motions for us to sit down.
“Thank you,” my mother and I reply as we take our seats.
“So, where is he?” my mother smiles as she pulls out her camera.
“He just called and said he’s about 10 minutes away,” she smiles.
As my mother and Derek’s mother chatted about the big sale at Kohl’s, I again tried to think of the possible ways of getting out of this.
This would be the first time in about 3 years since I’ve seen Derek. I had applied at the beginning of sophomore year to transfer to this amazing fine arts school. A month after Derek left me for Beth, I was accepted. I had the most amazing time there and had so many experiences that I would never have if I stayed at my pervious high school. Luckily, with my tight schedule and different school hours, I didn’t have to see Derek again. There were times when I missed our midnight escapades to Dairy Queen, but after what he did to me, I didn’t want to hear from him again.
“Oh, I just got a text message from him. He just parked his car,” Derek’s mother smiles as she puts her phone back in her purse.
“I’m so excited!” my mother smiles as she holds onto my arm.
“woo-hoo.” I reply as I roll my eyes.
I had already prepped myself for this. The awkward silence, my mother trying to strike a conversation between us and me constantly rejecting them, the frequent trips to the bathroom, and the dash to the car as soon as they pay for the bill.
“Hey, mom.” a man smiles as he walks towards our table.
“Hello, Ms. Adams,” the man smiles as he gives my mother a hug.
“Derek, you look so handsome,” my mother smiles as she offers the seat next to me.
“Caroline say hello,” my mother smiles as she gives me one of her looks.
“Caroline?!” Derek smiles as he gives me a huge smile.
“I’m so glad you came, you’re always so busy, I though I’d never see you again,” Derek smiles as he gives me a hug.
“Yeah,” I reply as I sit there in shock.
My whole battle plan was completely washed from my brain. Instead of wanting to be absolutely rude to him, I wanted him to hug me again. I couldn’t even believe that this could possibly happen, but….
Derek is gorgeous.
